Honoring First Responders on 9/11

Ascension Lutheran Church and School would like to invite all First Responders to a special worship service the weekend of 9/11.  At each service, there will be a blessing and recognition of firefighters, police, emergency medical technicians, sheriffs, medical and military personnel, Red Cross workers and all other professionals who serve on the front lines of emergency services. Service times are Saturday, 9/10 at 6:00 PM and Sunday, 9/11 at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 AM. The 9:30 AM Service will be the focal point of this celebration with a reception on the patio following the service.

“It’s about honoring the profession,” said Ventura County Fire Department Division Chief Ted Smith, who is also a member of Ascension. Within the profession, he noted, “Ordinary people do extraordinary things.”

Students and families of Ascension Lutheran School are invited to grow in service through this event and may choose to volunteer by making thank you notes for first responders, serving food, directing people at the event, or helping with signs and decorations. Please indicate how you would like to serve by signing up through this Sign Up Genius. And of course, if you serve the community as a first responder, please come and be honored and appreciated for all that you do!

The We’re Grateful for First Responders event caps the church’s Summer of Gratitude celebration, during which the congregation has focused on different themes of thanks each week. TheFirst Responders event falls on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, as well as the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s day of service, known as “Gods’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday.
