TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN GIVES STUDENTS THE GIFT OF TIME.
Ascension Lutheran School offers the option of a two-year kindergarten experience designed to increase children’s academic, social, and developmental readiness for the challenges that await them in subsequent grades. Kindergarten placement in the Seedlings Class (transitional kindergarten) or Sprouts Class (traditional kindergarten) is based on age, assessment, preschool recommendation, and parent/teacher conversations.
Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students enjoy a full and rich day from 8:30 AM-3:00 PM (with an option for 1:00 PM pick up for Seedlings). They are busy engaging in hands-on learning of standard academics as well enrichment classes such as Religion, PE, Organic Teaching Garden, Music, Technology, and Spanish is introduced for our Sprouts class. The day includes recesses, lunch, and a read & rest time.
Transitional Kindergarten – Age 4 yr 9 months – 5 yrs (must be 5 years by the end of December to qualify) or placement based on assessment and parent/preschool input.
Seedlings is an exciting transitional kindergarten option for younger children or those who would benefit from a two-year program. It employs age-appropriate curricula introducing the kindergarten standards. Students will develop pre-literacy and pre-math skills with a strong emphasis on social engagement and learning through exploration. This year serves as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten and helps to ensure that our young learners are equipped with the foundational skills and experiences necessary for success in kindergarten and beyond. At the end of Seedlings, students will be evaluated for placement in Sprouts, or in some cases, first grade.
Second-Year Kindergarten – Students must be 5 by September 1.
In the Kindergarten program, children flourish academically and socially in a developmentally appropriate environment. Students feel confident, safe, and loved while being challenged to new heights. In this traditional kindergarten classroom format, students build upon their previous experience whether it be from our TK class or preschool. Upon successful completion of Sprouts, students will advance to first grade.
