“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility- value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” – Philippians 2:3-4
Our theme verse for the 2017/18 school year, Philippians 2:3-4, reflects our emphasis on servant leadership as we seek to each use our God-given gifts to serve others. Faith life at Ascension permeates all we do because it is the lens by which we see. It means we live virtues such as compassion, humility, gentleness, patience, joy, forgiveness, and love.
Ascension Lutheran School is strongly rooted in the Lutheran tradition but is hospitable to students and families of various faith backgrounds. Many of our teachers have a background in the Lutheran tradition and attend a Lutheran church, and all of our teachers care passionately about modeling life in Jesus Christ. Every school morning, our teachers and staff gather together in the prayer chapel for a time of devotional reading and prayer.
Our weekly school chapel service and our religious studies curriculum also create a faithful environment for Ascension. Older students are paired with younger grades as chapel buddies, creating a special mentorship relationship between students. Additionally, one of our Student Council members serves as the “Commissioner of Faith Life” and helps lead service events in the community and decide where our chapel offerings should go.
We work in cooperation with Ascension Lutheran Church in supporting events for parents and families, which include spiritual formation classes, first communion and baptism classes, as well as Bible classes. All students are always welcome to be a part of the faith life programs of the church, such as Sunday School, Kids of the Kingdom, and Youth Group.
