Weekly Chapel & Worship Arts We like to say our week flows in and out of chapel which happens each Wednesday morning, right in the middle of our school week. Chapel is a time to remember who and Whose we are. It is for students and families, and we are also blessed to have church staff and members join us. Our “Chapel Buddy” program pairs older students with younger ones. Buddies sit together during chapel, and this creates a special mentorship between students. Worship Arts is a weekly class taken by our older students that prepares them to lead chapel. Worship Arts explores the heart of worship and what it means to be a leader and creator in the area of worship. Students participate in a variety of activities that include song leading, cantoring, leading the liturgy, acolyting, ushering, creating visuals for worship, liturgical dance, instrumental performance, performing short dramas, and tech crew.

Bible Study & Spiritual Discipline

Our weekly Bible classes help us dig deeper into the passage preached at Wednesday chapel. In addition to studying the Bible every week, students learn spiritual disciplines such as prayer, being a soul friend, serving others, and living our faith in our daily lives.

One Ascension Mission

The school works in cooperation with Ascension Lutheran Church to support events for children, youth, and families including spiritual formation classes, first communion, baptism, and confirmation classes, as well as Bible classes. All students are welcome to be a part of the faith community of the church and participate in our Children's Ministries programming which includes Sunday School, Kids in Christ, Vacation Bible School, and Youth Groups.

Service is an integral part of Ascension Lutheran Elementary School. We follow Jesus’s example, remembering he calls us to care for “the least of these.” Our weekly chapel offerings connect to our service focus. We work with the following organizations and services projects as well as others:

• Packing lunches for Harbor House, a local organization that cares for those struggling financially and experiencing homelessness

• Collecting non-perishable items for the food pantry at Ascension Lutheran Church

• Collecting clothes, diapers, and formula for James Storehouse, a local foster agency

• Packing personal care kits for Lutheran World Relief

• Making blankets through the Linus Project

• Writing thank-you notes during the Covid pandemic to medical workers and essential employees

• Bringing hope to the global, annual “Gifts of Hope” project each December; the 2021-22 project will have us learning about and helping Madagascar
