A Symbolic Butterfly Migration

In Spanish class, Ascension 2nd and 3rd-grade students are participating in a symbolic butterfly migration along with over 60,000 students in the United States and Canada. Our students created beautiful individual and class butterflies that are being sent to Mexico for the winter. At the monarch sanctuaries in Mexico, children will protect the butterflies and send them North in the spring. The symbolic butterflies build bridges of communication between students in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. United by the monarch butterfly, children across North America learn authentic lessons of conservation, cooperation, and ambassadorship. Students are looking forward to receiving butterflies back in the Spring!
